In a recent interview with Jeff Kaplan from Blizzard, Game Informer asked if heroes could be retired in Overwatch. Jeff said yes.
What does this mean for you?
Right now it means nothing. Jeff also said that it may never happen but if it does, but it is going to take a long time before they feel that they have to do that. Jeff said that the only reason he would feel comfortable retiring heroes was because they were free to begin with. He is really happy that they have decided to release every hero and content for free because it gives him a little more freedom to mess with the game appropriately.
What if my main gets retired?
Relax. It probably isn’t going to be. Not for a long time. Jeff said that the Blizzard team is taking their time with the heroes and when to release them. He only wants to add content when he feels it would be beneficial to the game. Mix up the meta a bit. Or prevent the game from going stale. Mr. Kaplan is very happy that they do not have to release heroes to push a business plan forward.
You should practice with new heroes when they get released, you never know if you hero will suddenly decide to take a vacation and retire. Do you think that Overwatch heroes get a pension? Let me know in the comments.
