“We don’t have any plans to retire any heroes” – Kaplan

No hero will be removed from Overwatch, officials confirmed

Are some of the old Overwatch characters on the verge of retirement? Information about the high possibility that the existing heroes could face retirement was bought in play by the director of the game on the official forums, after the hints given by Jeff Kaplan the game informer.
Overwatch’s development team had “Left the door open”, on the retirement on heroes in the future to come originally stated to GI by Kaplan. According to him, the franchise has no guilt regarding the removal of the old heroes because they are delivering new content to the community for free.

We would leave the door open to that. I think the fact that we chose the business model we did – that the game comes with all the heroes and we’re giving you everything [extra] for free so far – allows us to retire a hero without feeling bad about it. But I think we have a long way to go before heroes need to be.

The man in the spotlight, Kaplan has recently updated on this retirement saga on the official forums that the internet is making “a mountain out of a molehill” and for now at least the dev team has no intentions to retire any hero.

We don’t have any plans to retire any heroes. The interviewer asked if there was a possibility that this could ever happen and I “left the door open.”

The original poster in this thread did not even link to the original article but rather to an article quoting the article in question.
We’re not even remotely thinking about retiring heroes right now or anytime in the foreseeable future.
I think this thread is making a mountain out of a molehill.

So, the mobile turret is there in the game, for the time being. The Bastion players (including myself) can rejoice for now and make the most out of the announcement. For now, Blizzard is taking a lot of time in teasing the new heroes since the game launched in May. The medical sniper, Ana was made available in last June, while the elusive spy Sombra is yet to be released.
