A new Overwatch patch is on its way. Right now, it has become available for testing in the Public Test Region. Season 2 will launch on September 6. In preparation for this, a patch has been launched today. Even though these changes will eventually get to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, PRT is PC-only, so the changes on this patch will only affect this platform for now.
As stated before, Competitive Play Season 2 will bring a whole bunch of new features. This patch contains some big changes to anticipate the new season on September 6. Probably the most important change is the addition of skill tiers. This is aimed to enhance the matchmaking by putting similar tier players together. Also, the skill rating system will be on a scale from 1 to 5000 instead of the current 1-100 scale.
Sudden Death will be taken out on Season 2. Matches that are tied at the end of the game will result in a draw. But, some changes are going to be implemented to reduce the occurrence of this, since nobody likes to play a match just to end it on a draw after all.
As a quick note, some adjustments were made to leave penalties, the top 500 system and competitive point system.
Important changes involving Tiers
Seven tiers will be added to this patch. They will be:
– Bronze – 1-1499
– Silver – 1500-1999
– Gold – 2000-2499
– Platinum – 2500-2999
– Diamond – 3000-3499
– Master – 3500-3999
– Grandmaster – 4000-5000
Players that are below Master tier will not drop out of their current tiers even if their skill rating falls off considerably below the minimum for that specific tier. Master and Grandmaster players will drop out of their tiers if they fall below the minimum, though.
Also, players in Diamond and above that have been inactive in competitive play for 7 days will start to lose skill rating. Players with a skill rating higher than 3,000 will lose 50 points every 24 hours, but their rating won’t fall below 3,000.
Apart from this, there are a lot of other pretty interesting changes involving Map changes, Competitive Points, and what everyone was waiting for: Hero Balance Updates
